Preparing For Your First Meeting
Preparing for a meeting with an academic advisor is an important step in ensuring the meeting is productive and beneficial. Here are some tips for students to prepare for upcoming meetings with their advisor:
- Review Your Academic Plan in Stellic: Look over your academic plan, degree requirements, and any previous notes or plans discussed in prior meetings. This helps you stay on track and ensures you are aware of your progress.
- Prepare Questions and Concerns: Write down any questions or concerns you have regarding your classes, major, career goals, or academic challenges. This ensures you don’t forget to address any important topics during the meeting.
- Know Important Dates and Deadlines: Be aware of key academic dates and deadlines, such as registration periods, add/drop dates, and graduation application deadlines. This helps in planning your course schedule and other academic activities.
- Reflect on Your Goals: Consider your short-term and long-term academic and career goals. Be prepared to discuss how your current courses and activities align with these goals and seek advice on how to better align them if needed.
- Be Open to Suggestions: While it’s good to have a plan, be open to feedback and suggestions from your advisor. They may offer insights or alternatives you hadn’t considered.
- Be Ready to Take Notes: Bring a notebook or device to take notes during the meeting. This helps you remember the advisor’s recommendations and any actions you need to take.
